WE ARE ONLY AS BLIND AS WE WANT TO BE

The Spring blew trumpets of color;
Her Green sang in my brain
I heard a blind man groping
"Tap Tap" with his cane;

I pitied him in his blindness;
But can I boast,"I see"?
Perhaps there walks a Spirit

Close by,who pities me,

A Spirit who hears me tapping
The five-sensed cane of mind
Amid such unguessed glories
That I am worse than blind.

An estimated 253million people live with vision impairment:36million are blind and 217million have moderate to severe vision impairment.
Globally,chronic eye diseases are the main cause of vision loss.Uncorrected refractive errors and unoperated cataract are the two top causes of vision impairment.
The burden of blindness and visual impairment in our society affects the economy tremendously
Over 80% of all vision impairment can be prevented or cured.
We all need to join forces together to ensure a significant reduction of needless blindness.
It can be done if everyone at every level in our society commit time and resources to making it a reality.

  1. I believe myopia and the likes are forms of refractive error.
    Does it now mean that a myopic patient who doesn't use his or her medicated glasses often is also at the risk of blindness

    1. Myopia is indeed a type of refractive error.However a myopic individual who chooses to stop using his glasses doesn't risk getting blind but would still experience some form of visual impairment i.e suboptimal vision.
